Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing or using Crossword Scribe (the “App”), you agree to these Terms. If you disagree, uninstall and discontinue use.

2. Eligibility

You represent that you are at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement under Canadian law.

3. Definitions

• App — The Crossword Scribe software from the App Store.
• Service — All features of the App, including puzzle downloads, on-device recognition, and `.puz` support.
• Subscription — Your paid access after completing seven free puzzles.
• User Content — Any `.puz` files you import or puzzles you save.

4. Free Usage & Subscriptions

• Free Usage: Solve up to seven puzzles at no charge.
• Subscription: After seven puzzles, you must subscribe monthly or yearly via Apple’s in-app purchase. Apple handles billing; we never see or store payment data.
• Renewal & Cancellation: Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal. Cancelling stops future charges but retains access until period end. Paid fees are non-refundable.

5. Your Responsibilities

• Maintain any third-party credentials required to download puzzles; we do not collect or store them.
• Do not import or distribute copyrighted puzzles without permission.
• No hacking, scraping, reverse-engineering, or unlawful use of the App.

6. On-Device Processing & Privacy

All handwriting recognition runs locally via Google ML Kit. We do not collect usage data. Only information you explicitly email to [email protected] leaves your device.

7. Intellectual Property

The App and its code are owned by the developer. You retain ownership of your User Content.

8. Third-Party Services

The App may fetch puzzles from third-party providers; where subscriptions or logins are required, you are responsible for maintaining them. We do not store or transmit your credentials.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access immediately for breach of these Terms. Upon termination, your Subscription ends and you must stop using the App.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”. We disclaim all warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the App or CAD 100 (whichever is less). We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the developer from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your misuse of the App or violation of these Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada, excluding its conflict-of-law rules.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. We’ll revise the “Last Updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the new Terms.
